Statement on Social Responsibility and Fair Trade Currently, we offer certified Fair Trade coffees from Bolivia, Ethiopia, and Colombia. However, non-certified Fair Trade coffee does not necessarily mean that it is not being fairly traded. Many regions do not have certifications available, and for many small farmers and importers, certifications are too expensive or not possible to obtain. We get our coffee from importers that pay more than fair prices and sometimes pay two to three times the fair market price to the farmers, without certification. These importers also have ongoing relationships with many of the producers and dedicate themselves to helping the farms so that they may produce higher-grade coffee, which will help the farmers fetch greater rewards in the coffee market. We are a work in progress. Each step along the way, we are committed to making decisions to insure the relationships involved in creating a good cup of coffee are mutually beneficial. |
